Are Aldonil,Eparel,Frusenex And Zynatix Kidney Medications?
Question: Hi,
This question is for my mother, as I didn't get a clarity on some of the medicines. My mother aged 64 yrs, having 3.6 creatine level and Doctor suggested to take 'Aldonil (once a day), Eparel 50 (twice a day), Frusenex 100 (once a day) and Zynatix 2.5 (Once a day)'. I wanted to check are all these for Kidney and necessary in this case? I see Aldonil & Eparel are same tablets, still these are required on daily basis. Could you please suggest / give a view on usage of these medicines?
Brief Answer:
both are same.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX
(Dr Suresh, physician, incharge of dialysis unit, nephrology dept answering you)
You are correct. Aldonil and eparel are same, epalrestat which is used for diabetc neuropathy (nerves problem). I do not see a reason why she was prescribed two different brands; she can take the same tablet (aldonil) three times a day if she has diabteic related neuropathy.
Online, i can not recommend a STOP mark over them, but i can suggest you to check with your doctors if they have been put inadvertently.
As she has CKD since 3 years, i guess she must be on calcium, iron and a multivitamin also.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Doctor, this is useful. I have one more follow up question,
Is Frusenex 100 and Zynatix 2.5 are also for Kidney related or Diabetic? Is this as well necessary in combination with Aldonil and Eparel?
Brief Answer:
Aldonil and Eparel are not for kidney disease.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Both of them (frusenex and zytanix) are diuretics, mean, drugs that help kidneys in excreting excess fluid that remain back due to failing kidneys. They are good drugs that must be taken to avoid edema.
Aldonil and Eparel, as i said have different action, they help in nerve problems related to diabetes. They are not intended for kidney disease. In your Aunt's case, i think they were prescribed for diabetic neuropathy ( A kind of numbness, tingling and burning feeling of hands and feet). if she doesn't have either diabetes or neuropathy, there is no reason to be on those drugs.
Hope i am clear and feel free to post your doubts.
All the best.
