Can Sulfamethoxazole Cause Rashes And Body Aches?
Question: I was diagnosed with a sinus infection a week ago and was prescribed sulfamethoxazole. I have developed a rash and have chill and body aches. Could I be allergic to the medication?
Brief Answer:
it is possible
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
allergic reactions may occur with any drug. Sulfamethoxazole is no exception. The reaction may even occur after many uses of the drug without any previous symptom. Sinusitis is not supposed to cause any rash, so an allergic reaction is very likely particularly if there's itching as well.
You'd better talk with the treating physician for alternative treatment. An antihistamine may help with allergic reactions. If you have anything more than skin lesions only (like low blood pressure and faintness, shortness of breath, mucosal lesions, etc) then you should visit the ER at once.
Kind Regards!
