Greetings, My Dad Has The Following Issues: 1. Hernia 2.
Question: Greetings, my dad has the following issues:
1. Hernia
2. Enlarged prostate
3. Frequency to urinate (unable to control and urinates very often)
We have consulted a doctor for removal of Hernia and we were suggested to visit a Urologist and take some tests based on the guidance received from the Urologist. Post seeing the test results, we have been advised to cure the frequency to urinate and prostate before performing the Hernia surgery.
All I am looking for is a genuine guidance as my dad is a pure vegan and he has been off any sort of medications for over 3 years now. He is feeling healthy and we don't want him to take the route of taking unwarranted medications if they are not required. I hope you understand my sentiment and am looking forward to a genuine advise. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Catheterization or prostate resection is a possibility
Detailed Answer:
Hi Jagdish,
It sounds like benign prostate hyperplasia. If your father does not want to take medicine to help alleviate the outflow obstruction, he could undergo prostate resection before hernia surgery or be taught intermittent catheterization in the weeks after surgery so that he does not apply pressure when voiding.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
I would advise intermittent catheterization
Detailed Answer:
Hi again Jagdish,
Thank you for uploading the files. It appears your father has benign prostate hyperplasia with no evidence of UTI, urinary retention or kidney dysfunction. In my view, a prostate resection would be overkill, so I would advise that your father or a nurse performs intermittent catheterization from the day of surgery and the first two weeks. The risk of hernia recurrence is low, as it appears to be an inguinal hernia that will likely be inforced with a mesh.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
It is probably linked
Detailed Answer:
Hi again Jagdish,
The frequency is likely linked to the prostate issue, where the bladder is distended and never adequately emptied. Then it doesn't take a long time before the bladder fills again and there is an urge to urinate. So this issue will resolve when then prostate issue is resolved.
Does it make sense to you?
