Hello! My Husband Has Experienced Hip Pain For Quite A

Question: Hello! My husband has experienced hip pain for quite a few years now and he finally had an X-ray performed. The pain is on his right side. I’m attaching some images of the X-ray along with the radiologist report. Can you please take a look and let me know your thoughts? The report mentions abnormal sclerosis and cyst formation..,are those anything to worry about or are they just part of the osteoarthritis? (The “abnormal” and “cyst” language made me worry, lol! Thank you!

Brief Answer:
No reports
Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Thanks for the query.
There are no xrays or reports enclosed. Can you upload the images / reports again? Alternatively mail it to YYYY@YYYY
Sclerosis and cyst formation indicate possible avascular necrosis and possible early arthritis of the hip.
Physiotherapy can help at this stage although Total hip replacement will benefit in the long run.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Hi Dr. Ragu! Thank you for your assistance! I’m re attaching copies of the X-ray film and also the report.
So can you possibly give me reassurance that there is nothing worrisome in terms of bone cancer...that is just appears to be degenerative changes and arthritis?
Also I read about something called femoroacetabular impingement, cam type....after looking at the X-ray picture do you feel that may be the case and would warrant arthroscopy?
Thank you again!

Hi there
The xray does not show any bone cancer however the femoral head has flattened and given rise to arthritis due to the abnormal shape.
This isn't Femoroacetabular impingement. It's Avascular necrosis of the femoral head with hip arthritis.
A total hip replacement will be the best option instead of Arthroscopic treatment.

Answer
Detailed Answer:
The damage is moderate arthritis as per the xray.
I would recommend Total hip replacement if the pain is limiting his daily activities.
The damage will be progressive but with physiotherapy it can be delayed to a later stage for Total hip replacement.
Thank you

Oh Dr. XXXXXXX I cannot thank you enough for your reassurances on the cancer worry (I ran across some scary information while googling), and for letting me know what is going on while I try to convince my husband to make an appointment with an orthopedist.
So just three more questions and I will leave you alone, lol: I know you're somewhat limited in that you only have the x-ray image to work off of, but what would be your grading of the damage at this point -- moderate or severe? And finally, would you suggest a possible hip replacement at this point in time (he's 53 years old), or waiting until his pain is severely limiting his lifestyle (I know they keep coming up with more advanced surgical techniques as time goes on)? Will damage continue to be created at a fast pace? Thank you again for EVERYTHING!!
