Pregnant. Can Sneezing Cause A Brown Mucus Discharge?
I also have a heart beat Doppler and heard a faint baby heart beat 147 bpm today.
Is brown mucus discharge common during pregnancy?
I don't have any cramping when I got the discharge.
Thanks for writing.
Yes sneezing or excess vomiting can result in your symptoms.
Brown mucus discharge is not common in pregnancy.
Sneezing hard increases the intra abdominal pressure. This in turn puts pressure on the uterus which can lead to bleeding or brown discharge and even miscarriage.
The other serious reason can be that your recent UTI and yeast infection have predisposed you to miscarriage risk.
However the good signs in you are that you do not have any abdominal pain or cramping. Besides your ultrasound features are also appropriate for your gestational age with no signs of miscarriage.
So your brown mucus discharge can also be due to many physiological reasons in pregnancy.
Normally in pregnancy under the effect of rising hormone levels, the mucus discharge increases.
One of the reasons of your brown discharge can be related to the growth and stretching of the uterus and the surrounding tissue. This happens because the uterus is growing in shape and size to accommodate the growing size of the fetus. This bleeding is slow hence by the time this blood exits the body it has changed to brown color.
Brown discharge can also be a sign of implantation bleeding. When the egg attaches itself to the wall of the uterus, implantation bleeding takes place. This bleeding is often brown in color and can continue upto 12 5weeks of pregnancy.
Recent intercourse or vaginal examination can also result in brown discharge or spotting. This is because the cervix is extra sensitive in pregnancy and these cause irritation of the cervix.
UTI and vaginal infections in early pregnancy can result in abortion. So you need to avoid them.
All you need to do is take care by avoiding intercourse, heavy work and stress.
Keep personal and perineal hygiene to avoid infections. Take good amount of rest and sleep.
Plenty of fluid not only ensure health but also prevent UTI.
I hope I have answered your query.
Take care.
Is there anything else I can do to avoid. My doctor told me to call her if I see red blood. The brown discharge has stop now and I just saw my doctor a week ago ?
Mild amount of vomiting and sneezing is acceptable.
In case you have severe vomiting, you can ask your doctor for medication which are safe in pregnancy. They have to be taken only after prescription by a doctor.
Self measures to avoid vomiting of pregnancy include eating small frequent meals. Avoid taking fluids as soon as you wake up, taking something dry like biscuits would help relieve the morning nausea of pregnancy.
Avoid spicy and oily foods.
Brushing teeth after eating may help prevent symptoms.
Avoid lying down immediately after eating and avoid quickly changing positions.
Also avoid odors, tastes and other activities that trigger nausea.
Increase sneezing in pregnancy can be due to changing hormone levels leading to pregnancy rhinitis.
Allergic sneezing can be reduced by avoiding the allergen like dust, mold, pollen or change in weather precipitating the allergy.
Humidifiers and vaporizers also help.
Oral Medications to control allergy should be avoided as they cause sedation of your baby.
Nasal decongestants can be used.
You should definitely see your doctor if you notice fresh bleeding any time.
If your brown discharge has stopped, then there is nothing to worry.
Wishing you all the best.
Take care.
You are most welcome for queries.
Yes implantation bleeding usually occurs after 10-14 days of fertilization but may continue upto 12 weeks. This is because it is only after 12weeks that the uterine layers get completely obliterated.
