Suggest Treatment For ADHD In A Child

Question: Hi, my almost 7 year old was diagnosed with ADHD when 5. He has some mild development delays and social emotional problems. I recently looked at his growth chart from his medical records and noticed that his head circumference only increased 1 cm in the time of six month, basically from the age of 8 month until 14 months. Is that normal? Could it be possible that he has microcephaly and the diagnosis was missed? Both parents have big heads. My son's head circumference now is about 51 inches.

Brief Answer:
51 cm is completely normal

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that as per the available data he can not be considered as microcephaly. 51 cm of head circumference is completely normal.

However it is right to say that 1 cm growth over eight months period is not normal as normally during this period there is growth of 3 to 4 cm in eight months period. For example at 8 months the head circumference is 42 cm which becomes almost 45 cm by 14 months.

Considering this fact the possibility of arrested development during late infancy period need to be considered.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
