Question: Hello doctor,
My wife age 27 is having vitamin d deficiency that is 11.8 ng/ml due to hypothyroidism. Here we find as per dr consult on test report her tsh 3rd generatin ultra (tsh3 -ul) is 7.735 uIU/mL i.e showing lil bit high from 0.55 - 4.78. She was suffering from intense pain in her face, head and legs.. she is complete housewife so she is very much tiered of beeing doing regular household work. In recent last one month she took havey pain killers from dr priscribed ( ubicor, etosafe with some d3 capsules) without knowledge of due to hypothyroidism.. that after now i stopped all her pain killers. Now she is ok with thyrox-50 daily morning @6am, newbona active with breakfast, flunarin 10 @10pm after dinner, calcirol sachets once in a week with milk.
My question is how long it ll take to cure her.? we dont have a baby yet. I heard from someone those girls have thyroid problem who is not able to become mother or if she keeps pregency be in extra care from dr side. Some says its not cure u just control it. What is ur suggestion on that we are not in hurry.. what extra need to do in diet , physical work and mentaly to get rid of this problem..

Brief Answer:
Get thyroid under control.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
You have heard right that hypothyroidism causes issues in conceiving as well as maintaining normal pregnancy.
But her TSH levels are not so high to cause worries.
She is on 50 microgram of thyroxine, this is good enough dose for her. You can plan a baby now. Get her TSH repeated after 6 weeks of treatment. Infact, if she conceives, we would take the TSH level to a level of around 2.5 uIU/ml.
As far as diet is considered she can eat whatever she likes. Just avoid cabbage in diet.
Also , important is to do regular exercises.
As far as Vitamin D is concerned, she can continue with supplements advise, nothing to worry.
I would advise you to get in touch with me once again once she conceives. As perfect management is thyroid is important at that time.
If you have any further query please ask me.
