What Causes Chest Pain During Physical Activity?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Apr 2017
Question: Hello, doctors suspect I have costochondritis, it comes and goes, but usually lasts for 3-4 days. I've had ECG's, heart ultrasound, blood test and chest xray that were all normal. I have severe anxiety over this due to the fact I can feel the chest pain during walking or dancing. Is it normal to hurt while exercise?! I'm very scared.
I'm a female, 32 yo.
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Can be muscular, costocondritic or anxiety induced.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.

As your blood test echo etc are normal chances of it being pain of cardiac origin are very less.Severe levels of anxiety can cause chest pain and can mimic the symptoms of angina.
As you are feeling pain only on exertion a possibility is that muscular or costochondritic pain is overlapping with severe anxiety.

The best and the easiest way to find out whether its a sprained muscle or costochondritis is that take tablet Ultracet(Acetaminophen and tramadol)for 3 days and don't over exert yourself. If pain respons to it,Its most likely a muscular or chondritic pain.Other wise you have to go for stress thallium(97% senssitive) to rule out cardiac pain.Echo and ecg alone are about only (60% sensitive).
If stress thallium is also normal you have to consult a psychiatrist for your elevated anxiety levels.

As per your query answer is no its not normal to hurt while exercising and a through step by step investigation should be done.

Thanks

My question was it normal to hurt while exercise while you have costochondritis or muscular.
Or might be the anxiety kicking in?
