What Causes Lipoma On Neck And Scalp?
Question: My husband had surgery on Thursday morning for what was thought to be a lipoma. It was located above his right ear under his scalp. It ended up being under the muscle, under the scalp. It curved around his right ear and tunneled down the side of his face. The surgeon went down to the skull, getting it out. He said it was milky and looked like vanilla ice cream. He said he had never seen anything like it. He also said he was positive it wasn't malignant. I don't know how he can know that. Any thoughts?
Brief Answer:
Possibility of lipoma to be confirmed on histopathological examination
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Lipoma is benign tumor of soft tissue. Many types of lipoma are present with varied location and character. Neck and scalp lipomas may be ,Spindle cell lipoma, pleomorphic lipoma.
The nature of lipoma can be tested by histopathological examination of tissue obtained after surgery.
Any abscess or necrosed lymph node in that region may be another possibility if swelling was of short duration.
wait for the histopathological reports.
Continue antibiotics and rest treatment as advised.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
