What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In The Breast?
do you think i might need to get a mammogram to try and see whats going on. I have already had a lump removed from it years ago.
Breast pain is not a typical symptom of cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
Breast pain is rarely an indication of cancer, and breast cancer also rarely presents on both sides. So I do not think you need to be concerned about cancer or needing a mammogram to specifically evaluate your breast pain.
However, if you had a lump removed previously, depending on the reason and what the pathology of the mass was, it might be reasonable to get a mammogram to follow that up if your doctor thinks it is appropriate.
As far as helping with the breast pain, taking anti-inflammatory pain relievers (like Ibuprofen or Naproxen) and decreasing caffeine consumption, especially the week before your period, can help with breast pain. Taking evening primrose oil, which comes in capsules or teas, can also help in some cases.
So I hope I was able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown

You can try wearing a tight sport bra, hot or cold packs, and primrose oil
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
There unfortunately is not an easy quick fix for breast pain, especially if you are in the latter half of your menstrual cycle. The most common cause of breast pain is swelling from hormonal changes related to your period. Once you get your next period, the pain should decrease.
As I mentioned before, evening primrose oil is a supplement you can buy in the drugstore that can be effective in treating breast pain. It may not be immediately effective, but it can help the sensation decrease over time.
The fastest relief you may be able to get in the short term is wearing a tight bra and applying ice packs to your breasts, 20 minutes on and then wait 20 minutes before replacing the ice. Another way you can cool and soothe your breasts (my midwife colleagues swear by this technique) boil a head of cabbage until the outer leaves are soft and then put the head in the freezer. Peel off the curved leaves and let them thaw on your breasts.
It would be reasonable for you to make an appointment to see your GYN or primary physician to do a careful breast exam and possibly send you for a breast ultrasound. Breast cysts are not dangerous but can sometimes be a cause of breast pain and they are diagnosed by ultrasound. The treatment can be drainage of the cysts, which may improve your pain.
So in summary, for the most immediate relief, i would try ice or some kind of cold pack and a tight bra for support. I would try to contact your healthcare provider to see about getting an examination of your breasts, and possibly an ultrasound if the examination is consistent with breast cysts.
I hope you feel better soon and that these additional recommendations are helpful.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brown
