What Causes Pain Moving Between Groin And Lower Back?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Oct 2014
Question: Hi my name is XXXXXXX and I have had my right ovary removed this year on April 14th. My Gyno said there was very bad adhesions which is why ovary and fallopian tube removal took 3 1/2 hrs to perform surgery. In the last 2-3 months I started getting the same pain I had when I had my ovary and this time the pain travels to my groin and low back? My Gyno did an internal and external exam and said it all felt fine. :( Could the pain be from adhesions on colon or just adhesions on nerves? Very frustrated and worried I need another surgery.

Should I have an ultrasound performed or a CT Scan done? If it would be my colon or small intestine what would the symptoms appear as?

Brief Answer:
post op adhesions or endometriosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
thanks for contacting health care magic.
firstly going by the history, you havent mentioned was it pain which led to a diagnostic lap followed by removal of ovary due yo adhesions. Did your physician contemplate endometriosis as the diagnosis? Were your pains associated with your periods or existed during intermenstrual period?
if intermenstrual then mostly you have been operated for torsion ovary.
now the pains have restarted ...at the same side?
Pain at groin and lower back and unilateral indicates that probably post op adhesions have formed but within 6 months, unlikely.
Its not pid as your internal exam was normal.....so the best bet would be to get an ultrasound pelvis to look for organic cause and if need be a ct scan.

i would like you to review with reports.

To clarify things, I was having pain prior to removal of right ovary and there was a large cyst on my ovary measuring 6-8cm. The pain was dull and ache for over a year. When my Dr. performed surgery he said there was a mess inside of me (lots of adhesions!) Everything was stuck to each other uterus, colon, and ovaries. I have always had painful periods. I have had 4 previous abdominal surgeries, 2 being C-sections. After my surgery to remove right ovary I had finally gotten relief of the ache/pain that I believe the ovary/cyst was causing me, but 2 months after that same type of pain/ache returned. I am just getting concerned that it is something serious that will need to be surgically removed!
How can adhesions cause pain? That is, if this pain is from adhesions.

Brief Answer:
its possibly readhesion formation ...

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up.
well now it is clear the cause of adhesions ,your prev 2 lscs and abdominal surgery and the removal of rt ovary with large cyst possibly undergoing torsion else ovary could have been preserved by just cystectomy. The pain was due to peritoneal or ligament stretch or obstruction in colon due to adhesions.

so after removal of adhesions pain subsided, as obstructions and stretches were relieved. This time again possibly because of intense adhesiolysis done ,by lot of manipulaytion and dissection, and also if interseed was not used to prevent adhesions then likely that the raw areas left would have formed adhesions again and in just 2months which is fairly long time and your symptoms have reappeared again.

you may ask your doctor if interceed was applied if the adhesions wrre so dense tht time.

i am afraid if the pain is not controlled and ct scan should show any possible bowel obstructions and adhesions, then you may have to undergo another surgery.

regards.
