What Causes Severe Chest Pain, Shortness Of Breath, Chills And Lightheaded Feeling?
Question: Hi;
I have a hx of chest pain (middle to left side) off and on for about 15 years. Was sent to ER 10 yrs ago, nothing was wrong. Recently, I had severe chest pain, shortness of breath, chills, light headedness and was sent to ER by Kaiser again. Chest XRays, Blood tests and EKG were all normal. I was given a Nitro tablet and a px for Nitro and sent home. Symptoms persist, albeit more mild. Granted, I have a hx of Anxiety and take meds for that. And I can tell the difference between the physical and psychosomatic sx. It was also surmised that I have acid reflux,but I don't have the symptoms that go along with that. So I wonder is it all in my head or is there something that needs further physical examination?

Brief Answer:
It could be functional.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,
Thanks for choosing HCM for your query.
I appreciate your concern for the chest pain.
In view of the normal physical examination like CVS and Respiratory symptoms and investigations like EKG, Chest X rays, and blood tests ( the details are not being mentioned) and the history of on medications for anxiety it looks more of
psychosomatic origin.
However, the possibility of heart disease can be ruled out by further investigations like Echocardiography or Angiography.
Hope your doubts are clarified.
Should you need to ask more query you are welcome.
Best regards
