What Causes Severe Indigestion, Abdominal Bloating And Swallowing Issues During Menopause?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Just started menopause and having some interesting symptoms. Have started over the past month with pretty severe indigestion, abdominal bloating, and even swallowing issues (feels like something in my throat and always a burning sensation) - yet I am gaining weight. Thoughts? I have appointments scheduled next week, but as I self diagnose (I know terrible to do) worried about aortic dissection or something of that nature. Also a "pinching" pain in lower left flank. I did have an ultrasound this week as I have had kidney trouble and they saw kidney stone in right side, and an enlarged uterus which I am having more tests on next week.

Brief Answer:
Acid Reflux Disease

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Indigestion, abdominal bloating, swallowing difficulty with some thing like stuck in the throat with weight gain and heart burn are all very classic and adding features of GERD also called acid reflux disease.

With pain left flank could be mere a musculoskeletal as stone was in right and pain is in left. So it is unlikely to be a renal colic secondary to calculi.

And last but not the least it is not aortic dissection or some thing else you horrify your thoughts with by self diagnosing. No worries slight diet and lifestyle modifications will help the GERD and a few painkillers will fix the flank pain.

Try losing weight by natural mean, exercises , low carb high protein diet. drink plenty of fluids, eat small frequent meals , increase the time frame between last meal and lying down, keep the head side of the bed elevated. Avoid spices, and sweet specially chocolate etc.

Your doctor will have a look at you and will prescribe you some long acting antacids like omeprazole for the relief. if the problem still persists you may talk of other options for GERD like surgical corrections as fundoplication but i am sur eit wont come to that.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
