What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Side Of The Chest?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Nov 2016
Question: Iam having mild left side chest pain continiuously from the last 4-5 days. At times it appears to be less but never goes away completely.
Iam only 28 years old and overall healthy (but was treated for TB lymphadenitis from Oct/15 to May/16.. till recovery). The chest pain is bearable but continues to persist and there is a minor swelling too over the left chest area. Mild pain is continuous but becomes little worse while walking/moving over uneven surfaces or travelling over bumpy roads. There is no fever and appetite remains good. However, iam having continuous cough for several months now with watery white coloured mucus. Breathing has also become heavy in the last 1-2 hours. What may be the cause? Kindly direct further action required too.. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
A flare up of TB needs to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. The first thing I would insist you to do is to get an X Ray Chest (PA view) done. You already have a history of tuberculous lymphadenitis. So the possibility of a flareup needs to be ruled out. It was also important to listen to your chest but that is beyond the scope of this discussion. As of now I would insist you to take steam inhalation. Water in form of vapour would reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough.

I would await your response. I will guide you further after you upload the report.

Thanks for the reply doctor.
My problem is that iam out of town & travelling. So, getting an x-ray done and meeting a doctor with it is little difficult for the next few days.
I started steam inhalation as per your advice. But there is no appreciable change in the symptoms yet. Another observation is that iam getting tired quickly after doing even small physical works like washing clothes or walking fast. Can it be something other than a TB relapse? What are the other possibilities considering my symptoms?
Kindly suggest whether i need to get immediate medical advice/tests and cut short my tour OR assuming that it not likely to be serious, can I take some more time before approaching a doctor directly?

Brief Answer:
Please do not delay

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I understand that you are out of town but I would insist you to get the X ray done at the earliest. There are municipal chest centres all throughout the country and they would be the best to analyze the situation correctly. Although it can also be a simple viral infection, the possibility of a pneumonia would also need to be ruled out.
