What Causes Twitching Of Lower Lip In Infant?
My kid is 2.6 years currently. He has a slight a twitch in the lower lip which shows off only when he cries or laughs out wildly. Otherwise everything is normal.
He has this issue since he was born. Per the Pediatrician present during my delivery, its a weak nerve thing and should be normal in a year or 2. Well, the twitch has decreased slightly but still present. Now when I approach him, he gives me a different story that it would be a permanent thing.
Please suggest me further.
It is possible that it is a partial facial palsy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I have noted your child's symptoms.
The symptoms could be suggestive of partial facial palsy, where there is a weakness of muscles supplied by the facial nerve. The lip muscle is called as orbicularis oris, which is also supplied by facial nerve.
A clinical photograph while crying or laughing will help us confirm the diagnosis. Also, a nerve test for facial nerve- facial nerve conductions and blink reflex- would help in confirmation of diagnosis.
I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
Wishing you good health,
