My 7 Year Old Daughter Has An Eye Irritation
Question: my 7 year old daughter has an eye irritation
Hello
Here is a photo of my daughter's eye - she's been rubbing her eye for the last week, and we thought she was just tired or too much screentime from having to do virtual school lessons and using her ipad.
She does say it hurts, and we keep telling her not to touch or scratch it. We have booked an appointment with a pediatric eye specialist, but it isn't until the 23rd Feb, so was hoping you could help. thank you.

Hi Doctor
Thanks for your response
1. She said it's itchy and hurts. She scratches the skin around her eyes.
2. No scaling or peeling on her eyelids. Just under her eyes look reddish purple with a few little bumps and probably her skin has been stretched from scratching.
3. No discharge - maybe some crustiness in the morning when she wakes, but that's just normal.
4. Her eyeballs are white - no redness at all.
5. No dandruff - her scalp is pretty good.
6. She does have an allergy cough that comes maybe once or twice a year around October, I think coinciding with the change of weather. We have a dog, so she's not normally allergic otherwise.
I tried to give her chamomile tea bags to help - she doesn't place it on top of her eyes, she puts it on the outer sides.
Last week she was squinting, so we thought she had dry eyes. It's just hard to get a closer appointment to see the doctor. HOpe you can help thank you.
Thank you doctor

Brief Answer:
Probably allergic
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thank you for the details given
After going through all the details and seeing the picture, this seems like an allergic reaction of the lid margin and surrounding skin(blepharitis). Most commonly this is caused by a condition called seborrheoic blepharitis.
Since the conjunctive or eye ball is not involved, we need not worry and nothing urgent here.
You can give her an antihistamine like Cetirizine- give Cetirizine syrup(5mg/5ml) 5ml at night for 5 days. Also, wash/cleanse the eye lids well with a baby shampoo lotion(after diluting 4 times) twice daily, followed by mopping with a cotton wool. With these measures, she will be fine in 5-7 days. Otherwise we can evaluate further.
I hope this answer will help
