Can Cyclobenzaprine Dosage Be Increased For Chronic Muscle Cramps?

I brought my son home from the hospital today. He was in for 5 days. They did a lumbar puncture and poked and punctured him 6 times. We know this because they did a blood patch and that is what the doctor who did the patch said. The patch helped, however, the muscle cramps and spasms are back. He was given a prescription of cyclobenzapr 5mg per tablet to be taken twice a day. Doesn t seem to last long enough. Can I increase the dosage? He is 22 yrs old weighing 208 pounds. He is a weight lifter.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The dose of Cyclobenzamine varies, it can be increased to 7.5 mg to 10 mg three times a day but it would be best to speak to his doctor before adjusting the dose.

He may also need additional medication for relief.

I hope this helps.
