Can Sertraline Or Wellbutrin Cause Acid Reflux And Irritation In The Stomach?
I have been taking 200mgs of serrtaline for years. I also take 100 mgs. of Wellbutrin. My hands shake and I have thought that it is the drugs. I m exerencing very uncomfortable heartburn or irritation to the esophagus or stomach. I have had some of these symptoms to a lesser degree before. Because I have had anemia 3 times I have had an endoscopy, colonoscopy and swallowed a camera 2 years ago. The only thing that was found was a slight irritation to the top of the stomach. I have been on aciphex for the last 2 years which I understand cuts back on 90% of the acid. I m wondering if the sertraline or wellbutrin could be causing this problem. I have an appointment with my gastroenterologist in September but thought I would see what I can track down before then. Thanks

I understand you have a concern about Sertraline or Wellbutrin causing heartburn. From my experience and what I've read, Sertraline and Wellbutrin do not usually cause this problem; there are some reports of Welbutrin causing gastric reflux, but this is very rare and I doubt it can explain the severity of your heartburn (as I assume you still have it even while taking Aciphex).
Aciphex is an appropriate treatment for your heartburn, and if you are still having symptoms while on it then I would recommend you see a gastroenterologist as well.
