Child Prescribed With Cylindrical Lens. Both Parents Do Not Have Refractive Error. Cause?
Hello my 6 yr old son has been prescribed cylindrical lenses with -1D in both eyes. this was found in routine school eye camp. he had no symptoms like blurred vision , headache , red eye , watering of eye etc. both me & my wife are 40 but still dont have refractive error . So whats my son suffering from & why, how can i get him rid of the glasses. is it a severe problem or a mild one
Normally, children of his age having cylindrical error of -1 have problems in near as well as far vision and also complaints of recurrent headache. It is likely that the child needs a more careful examination of his eyes after dilating the pupils so that a conclusion about refractive error can be reached. If still is found to have a cylindrical refractive error, initially he should try glasses and re-examination at 6 monthly interval by a eye surgeon should be done.
