Could Locked Knee And Straight Leg With Inability To Bend The Leg Suggest Cartilage Damage?

I play basketball and during a game I jumped and intercepted the ball, but while i was in the air my knee locked so when I landed on the ground , my leg landed straight.. My knee didn t bend like it was suppose to.. What does that mean?? Iv e been told that it can be cartilage damage, is that true?
