Diagnosed With Colon Cancer. Colostomy To Bypass Tumor Suggested. Is This The Best Treatment?
Hi, my dad has been diagnosed with colon cancer and my be involved in other organs. His doctor (surgeon) recommends a colostemy to bypass the tumors which are almost totally blocking his colon. The tumors and other lesions are not going to have any other procedures or treatments. Is this the best approach? I am extremely concerned for my father's best interests. dan
In terms of the colostomy, this would allow the passage of stool and air from the colon. At present because of the tumor obstructing the passage of stool , he may experience symptoms of obstruction. This would include bloating, abdominal pain and vomiting. The procedure would prevent these symptoms.
I hope this helps
