Fishy Smell From Rectum, Worse At Night While Sleeping, After Masturbation. Tried Bacterial Antibiotic. Treatment?
Hi, There are many questions similar on here but nothing specific. I have a wet fish smell sweat of some sort coming from my rectum randomly thoughout a day. It is the worst at night when sleeping and after masterbation. I tried taking a bacertial antibiotic for my intestines my doc gave me with no success. This is affecting my life greatly and my doc doent seem to want to help me. Any advice?
Hi,
a fishy smell from rectum, or generally from genitals is classical of an infection called Gardenerella vaginalis. It could be interesting for you to do a stool examination, culture and anti biotic sensitivity tests. Its important in this case, based on the clinical fishy test to carry out a 40% KOH(potassium hydroxide) test for Gardenerella vaginalis.
Avoiding unprotected sex during diagnostic and treatment period could be of great importance to prevent reinfection. Consulting your primary care physician for prescription of tests, examination and management could be of great importance.
Thanks a I hope this helps,
Luchuo, MD.
