Hello docs,
My girlfriend took plan B few hours following unprotected sex (August 7). Her period was on July 24-26, supposedly August 7 was day 1 of the ovulation / based on her calendar. Our plan is to take Ella 2 days after plan B (in addition to plan B). Since Ella works via opposite mechanism, my goal here is to enhance the overall efficacy to achieve some sort of additive effect / if at all. My review of certain publications or of the FDA prescribing information showed there is no evidence Ella can reduce effectiveness of the plan B , if plan B taken 1-2 days prior. My hope is that if there is a sufficient gap between 2 drugs, plan B can start clearing from the system, so Ella can kick in. FDA info only mentions that there should be a gap if one wants to take hormonal birth controls after Ella, but not vice versa.
I am concerned that plan B or Ella work better pre-ovulation, but not at the time or after ovulation - in fact I recall there was some statistics on that. Since this is important, I'd rather think on my own how to achieve better efficacy. Gf doe snot have insurance to cover IUD, so pills are our only option right now.
What is the practical advice ? Any specific experiences or expectations ? Cons, pros?
thanks in advance, Sam
