How Can IBS Be Treated?

my son has been sick for 3 years. He was diagnosed with h pylori 3 years ago. It was eradicated, but he has not been well since. We have been to numerous doctors and had tons of tests, but they all keep saying its IBS. The problem is, that none of the IBS medication, diet changes or treatment is working. His stomach hurts almost constantly. He has solid bowel movements up to 10 times a day. He is tired all the time. and now has dropped 11 pounds in 2 weeks. We have even tried anxiety medication to relieve stress, even though he is a very laid back kid. Any thought on what our next step should be? It tends to get worse with exercise, so he has had to give up the sports that he loves.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and welcome to ask a doctor service . I have read your question and here is my advice.
Sorry to hear of your suffering , i understand the mental stress you had been through for you kid.
In fact the last treatment for IBS is to start on anti depressant like duloxetine ( if not already ) if this does not work we ask to stop taking wheat . CBT ( cognitive behavioral therapy) has also a role here.
However this all only after you are sure that there is no other cause and that this is IBS.
Wish him better luck.
Hopes i have answered your question , please feel free to ask more you want to know.
kind regards
Dr Rahman
