Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son was stung by a bee on his foot yesterday. He stepped on it on the base of the 5th toe, on the pad. There is swelling at the site of the sting and into the bottom middle part of the foot with a swollen red mark going up the arch of his foot. He says it itches and is painful. Otherwise he is fine. Should I take him to ER? Is this blood poisioning?
The swelling, itching and pain is part of the body's response to the sting. This is the body's normal inflammatory response.
The use of an antihistamine and anti inflammatory agent would help. Benadryl is an antihistamine that is readily available. Children's ibuprofen/advil can be used as the anti inflammatory medication if he can use this.
I hope this helps
