Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is on blood pressure medicine. It was really high today. We went to ER and talked to his doctor. He said to double up the Losartan. How long does it take to kick in we have a blood pressure machine. It has not gone down. Last time he had take one was awhile ago
hi! I do not know what was the value of the arterial blood pressure and what is the dose of losartan that your husband usually gets. Does he take any other anti-hypertensive medication? However, what I would recommend to you is to monitor the values of blood pressure several times a day and refer them to your doctor. Losartan is a medication that does not act immediately to reduce blood pressure. It requires several hours. The maximal dose of losartan is 100 mg per day (can be taken as a single dose or separated twice per day). If he continues with high values of blood pressure, I would recommend that he starts another anti-hypertensive medicine together with losartan (combine therapy). Take care and thank you for using healthcaremagic for your concern. Please do not hesitate to write again if you have further questions.
