Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My second toe is sore when pressed against shoe. I looked at nail. No ingrown toenail or any sign on infection. I had this about 10 years ago. The doctor prescribed 2 ointments. I can t remember what they were . Is there anything OTC I could use? I think 1 ointment I used was a steroid. So I ve been applying triamcinolone ointment for a couple days but no relief.
Any injury to the toe can cause some pus to form. This is because of cell death and sometimes due to bacterial infection. In many people bacterial infections would need to be treated with antibiotics.
Along with this, some doctors or surgeons may suggest incision and drainage to remove the pus and to reduce the pain.
Triamcinolone can be useful in some diseases but may not be useful in all diseases or with bacterial infection.
Seeing a surgeon for this and draining the wound would be a good idea. I hope this helps. All the best.
