How Can The Lab Report Be Interpreted?

This is for my brother. His doc says he may have prostatitis due to matching symptoms but he s also experiencing edema, joint pain, numbness and tingling in his legs and oily sweat. He s had extensive lab work done which flagged a rare bacteria and these two flagged labs: SGPT/ALT 48 10 35 U/L and Alkaline Phosphatase 39 53 128 U/L. His doc has no idea.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

If there is clinical suspicion of prostatitis, I suggest you get urine routine examination and urine culture.

Oedema, joint pain, numbness and tingling of the legs may not be associated with prostatitis.

SGPT and Alkaline phosphatase are liver enzymes which are within normal range.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
