I have been a heavy bringe drinker for a year or so. I have recently started to try and get pregnant. I have got down my alcohol intake drastically but would like to know if my liver and kidneys have might have effected and if it will impact my future pregnancy? I did a blood and urine test for a doctor and she has asked me to come and see her to discuss my urine results, 'not urgent' she said. Thanks

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your query. The best part of your story is you have already stopped taking alcohol in planning period of pregnancy. Alcohol indulgence during pregnancy does have both physical/psychological hazards in fetus. As you have already stopped it, & not going to restart it till child birth, your baby won't have any bad effect on it's growth. As per the physical side effects you have ,can be taken care of by medications/ lifestyle changes-so as not to affect baby. It's also good that you have revealed the fact to your treating doctor. Please don't worry, everything will be well managed. Only thing to be done by you is - to be in touch with your doctor, follow all the instructions given strictly& always be positive. Thanks.
