Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Marijuana is detected in the human body by urine assays and not by blood tests. The assays can be positive up to a week after acute use and several weeks after chronic use. Adolescents who use marijuana chronically can have poor academic performance (including less likely to graduate from high school), adult psychotic disorders, using other illicit drugs, and drug addiction. Despite the relaxation of laws regarding the use of marijuana in many states it remains a dangerous drug.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.
Arnold Zedd, MD, FAAP
