Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Should One Continue To Take Azithromycin To Treat Chlamydia?
I went to the ER on Sunday and the doctor gave me 4 pills of azithromycin to take at one time. I did not think I had chlamydia . So Tuesday morning I had unprotected sex again with an infected person . Wednesday I found out I was positive for it . Did I re-infect myself two days after I took the medicine?
I think the Chlamydia infection might require further treatment apart the 4 pills of Azithromycin you already took. Plus, having unprotected sex with an infected person will also increase the risk for re-infection. Actually, the infection will develop after a few days from the last exposure. But, you already were exposed to before the last unprotected sex with this infected person. To me, should keep regular follow up with your caring doctor until totally healed. Keep good genital hygiene. Avoid unprotected sex.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
