How To Treat Burning Sensation In Vagina After Having Unsafe Sex?

Hi,

I had unprotected sex (with a bf of 6 years) and since then i have had a burning sensation inside/soreness. I am now on my period and thought it might go away, but after trying to insert a tampon it was really sore, so i decided against it. I want to go to my nearest gum clinic, but can doctors examine me whilst im on my period? do i need to wait till bleeding has stopped?]thanks
