Is HIV Transmission Possible Through Unprotected Sex?

I got all my STD tests last week and they were all negative. I had sex with a Commercial sex worker about 48 hours back. While I was taking out my penis out of her, I saw there was no condom and she had to take it out without going in to deep. I am unsure if the condom came off after I withdrew or before that. I am sure if it was exposed to her vaginal fluids it could not have been more than 30 seconds - 1 minute at MAX (if time matters). I just saw my penis a few seconds back and it was covered unless I eventually pulled out. Stupid of me to not pull it our earlier when it's harder. Tomorrow is my last day to opt for PEP. I am very confused as there have been cases (rare) of very harmful long term effects. The short term, I believe I could handle. Please help me understand more about my risk and if I should opt for PEP. I read the risk is very low from women to men through vaginal sex but one instance could be enough to get HIV. Please help me I am literally sick. My first and last time with a CSW. I visited 2 doctors one refused to give me PEP as he thought the risk is not high and other one was ready to prescribe me and left the decision to me (even he said risk is very unlikely). Please help me these are crucial hours.

Hello,

Just to reduce your anxiety, I want to tell you that the fear of getting HIV or any other STD is more in CSWs compared to their clients. They usually follow proper protective methods. If you have access to that sex worker, then please talk to her and find out her status. She should tell you about her status. But if her status is unknown and you are not fully sure that you had full protection throughout the activity then better to go for PEP. You should not overlook even a slightest of risk, though most likely you are safe and there is no risk.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi
