Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 months old son was prescribed with kidpred as drugs for cough by our family doctor and it subsided after three weeks it started again so I when to a nearby health care and I was being warned not to give anymore with kidpred as it is a steroid it could effect the bone of the baby causes ricket. Please help me I don t know which one to follow and im scared.
Kidpred contains prednisolone, which is a steroid and used widely for many conditions including respiratory and allergic diseases.
However, steroids have a very long adverse effects profile if used for prolonged periods including weakness of the bones, stomach ulcers, suppression of growth especially in children etc.
Therefore it should be used only after consultation of doctor, who prescribed it after weighing its risks vs benefits.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Muhammad Zahir Shah, Internal Medicine Specialist
