Is Aching And Burning Normal After A Metatarsal Fracture Healing?

Five months ago I slipped off a step and fractured my "fifth metatarsal", as seen on x-ray. Wore a stiff shoe for 6 weeks and the next xray showed real slow healing (the fracture was not displaced). Was placed in a boot for another 8 or 9 weeks, and a couple of x-rays in the interim showed healing, but still very slow. Told to wear the boot another 4 weeks, and progressively wean it with wearing supportive shoes. Have had very little pain (except initially). I see the dr. in 3 days. Since I've been wearing my shoes, I feel an ache and occ. burning on the outside of my foot, and occ. into my little toe and shin. I'm concerned about it because I don't want to go backwards and cause another fracture or complication. Is it normal to have such symptoms when the fracture has healed? I am a healthy 62 yo, full time bedside hospital nurse for the past 40 years. My ht. and wt. are within normal limits. Thank you
