I went to the ER yesterday for soar throat and having a fever a few days ago. They did a strep test that came back negative, but they still put me on Penicillin in which is has worked some, but I have this something stuck in my throat feeling that causes a gag reflex in me. Is it my tonsils that are swollen? Can I take Benadryl with the Penicillin to help it along.
Hello, For sore throat and fever penicillin is a good choice.but need to be take for the complete course. Many times a swab from throat comes out to be negative, so do not worry. Benadryl is not advisable to take there are other anti histaminic and decongestant medicines are available. The lump feeling would go when the infection settles down . The penicillin medicine takes -3-4 days for complete action and then needs to be taken for complete drug course. In doubt do reply.
