Is It Safe To Take Prilosec For A Prolonged Period Of Time?

I have had severe heartburn recently and went to my internist. She put me on prolisec for two weeks to see if this would help. It is nearly two weeks and I feel quite fine and no more burning sensation. She said I could stay on it forever . Is that true and will there be problems if I stay on it for a long time? I am 78, female and cut back on wine and do not eat spicy food. Thank you for your answer.

Hello,

If heartburn is due to hyperacidity so is being given PPI (Proton pump inhibitor) for at least six weeks or any group of agent fall in this category like Prolisac (You stated here), maximum period of the therapy is six weeks beyond this treatment can not be continued.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
