Is Light Bleeding Compared To Long Heavy Bleeding Earlier, An Indication Of Menopause?

I am a 40 year old female with a history of long heavy periods.(the last 5 years). I just had a period that was lighter than normal, and 5 days later I started to bleed again(during the time I should have been ovulating). I am now on day 12 of bleeding. Some days it is brown spotting, & some days there is some heavy flooding. I went to my D.R., who checked my hormones & said they wer'e in the normal range. I am scheduled for an ultrasound mid Feb. I also suffer from fibroids, 1 being a 4.2 cm submucosal fibroid. I was just wondering if this was a sign of perimenpoause, or if my fibroid could be causing irregular bleeding. My mom went through menopause at age 45.
