Is Stabbing Pain In The Ear Due To Tic Douloureux?

Can TN or tic douloureux cause severe stabbing pains in ear? I ve seen my physician and this is what he thinks I have. I am unable to take steroids or anticonvulsants due to severe side effects and am allergic to Lyrica (swelling of tongue, face and neck, SOB) and codeine (hives).

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Tic douloureux or trigerminal neuralgia is a severe, stabbing pain to one side of the face.It stems from one or more branches of the nerve that supplies sensation to the face, the trigeminal nerve. It affects face mostly and may extend to ear. However, if pain is limited to ear, an otoscopic examn by an ENT will be very important to exclude an ear infection or other ear-related conditions that may manifest with pain.
Since you can not take steroids or anti-convulsnats, i will suggest you try a pain drug like paracetamol-codeine combination(klipal). If pain persist, the impression of an ENT or Neurologist or both may be requested.
Just discuss this with your Doctor.
Hope this will help
Wish you a speedy recovery
