Hello Doctor,
My father has been having a keloid over his chest since the past 35 years. He is 64 years old now. The keloid has been irritable and painful at times, but has been manageable until now. However, since two years he has developed a cauliflower growth over the keloid. This growth started as a small white mole over the keloid in his chest, now after two years it has spread across his keloid with a dimension of about 6-7 cms horizontally and 2-3 cms vertically. This cauliflower growth has been painful since a year. He was taking homoeopathy medicines for sometime, but did not provide much relief. This is now turning into a nightmare and the pain is acute at certain times that he is spending sleepless nights sometimes. We visited a hospital in Bangalore wherein the dermatologist referred us to a surgeon. The surgeon is of the opinion that this could be squamous cell carcinoma and needs to be operated and removed surgically. We are however, reluctant because we were told that post operation also, the keloid and the scar are likely to re-occur.
Since his condition is extremely painful, we are in a dilemma. Please advice.
Thanks,
G.Meetha
