Hi I have a 13 year old daughter and I have a unique question about menstruation. When I was 13 I had to have an emergency hymenectomy due to a 'extremely thick hymen wall'. I had been menstruating for several months but the menstrual flow was staying inside me behind my unusually thick hymen wall...or something to that effect I was 13 so I was more mortified than taking notes. I was told by my doctor at that time, and by doctors since then that my case was very rare. In fact the doctor that treated me had never treated anyone with this issue before and hasn't treated anyone since me and I'm now 32. So, my question is geared towards my daughters health: Is this a hereditary condition, or is it something that I should be concerned she might have happen as well? She hit puberty about 3 years ago and has been exhibiting cyclical symptoms of starting her period such as mood swings, tiredness, food cravings, back aches all around the same time of the month but I am unsure what's 'normal' teen growth and hormones and what or if I should be concerned.
