Should I Continue Taking Hydrocodone Tablets For Pain After Having A Cervical Fusion Surgery?

Good evening, six years ago I had a c6 cervical fusion surgery .My arm pain was gone immediatly after surgery with the #6 disc now removed however the next two discs are deteriorating fast. I am now in constant neck pain due to the surgery which will never go away .It took a few years before my doctor got me on track with the right pain meds.I take 8 10/325 hydrocodone tablets daily.I would always wake up hurting nightly, take an extra dose but then always end up short at the end of the month and that was not good.Last summer he added a night pill for me ,ms contin ER 30 mg. Since then I have been doing fine, never waking up and never short. Heres my question: The doc is changing my meds next visit to replace the 8 10/325 hydrocodone with something i will not have to take four times daily.(I take 2 hydros at a time)..What will equal what I am currently prescribed, and what about breakthrough meds? This all scares me because it took so long to get on track and now I dont want to start over
