Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 25, 165 cm height, 70kg. I herniated my l5 s1 8years ago in a car accident. I have recently had another mri scan and seen my neurosurgeon. I have tried everything for the pain and hasn t helped I have finally agreed to Surgery. The mri scan has showed a significant change over the last three yearsthere is substantial compression my nerve root. I wanted to know how long it usually takes to get surgery after you have made the decision and have I left it to long, will my recovery take longer. I am seeing my neurosurgeon tomorrow and want to be prepared. I don t know how I will react if I have to wait long for surgery I am suffering.
Surgery is indicated only if you are having Numbness or radiating pain down the leg because of the nerve root compression. Disc surgery is not a majoy surgery and you should be discharged a day or two after surgery. You don't need to wait too long for the surgery once the surgeon decides to do so. Disc herniation can be treated in different ways like microscopic dissectomy, ozone therapy etc.,Kindly discuss with your neurosurgeon for the best possible and minimally invasive treatment.
