I am a 40 year old female. I had an exploratory laparotomy and bi-lateral oophorectomy a few weeks ago. My second day post op I noticed my IV site was weeping and I was swollen all over (I was requesting my wrist band be cut off because it was becoming too tight). My abdominal pain was less concerning to me than the headaches, nausea and vomiting I was experiencing. My O2 sats were 82, 83, 84 - the CNA and nurses felt the pulse ox was broken and would repeatedly leave the room to get another. They would have me deep breath to get the sat up to 94 or so, document it and were on their way. They also had me on 3L of O2. I was lethargic and confused and felt as though no one was paying attention. The afternoon of day 3 I was tearful (the headaches were worsening) and agitated and asked my husband to call my doctor directly after multiple requests for the nurses to call him were ignored. When my doc came in and assessed my status he ordered labs to be drawn, sent me for a chest x-ray and involved the hospitalist. It was confirmed I had fluid peripherally and in my lungs. I was given multiple doses of lasix and kept another night. My question is - what does all this mean now? My IV site wept for 4 days after my discharge and I now have a dull pain and tightness in my forearm. I have also had a dull headache almost every day since I was discharged. What damage has been caused by this?
