I am a 46 year old, athletic female in relatively good health - no long term issues other than migraines and hypoglycemia. In the last year my energy level has dropped, insomnia increased, am experiencing brain fog/confusion, an overwhelming need to nap daily (even on days when I have a full nights sleep), acid reflux, decreased sex drive, increase in painful cramps and clotting, spotting, dry skin, losing hair on the outside of my eyebrows and more. My mother has Hashimotos, has had 3 parathyroid tumors removed due to hyperparathyroidism and has hypothyroidism. I asked my GP for help and she had several tests run. TSH is 2.42, T4/free is 1.12 and Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies are 26. The number than concerns me is my calcium levels, which are out of range at 10.3H. Protein levels are also out of range at 8.4H. All others are within range, to varying degrees high and low. I think the 10.3 indicates hypercalcemia, which indicates hyperparathyroidism and an explanation for how Iām feeling. My doctor has made no mention of the hypercalcemia and is writing me off as depressed. I am not depressed ā I have experienced that and know the difference, and am in fact on Welbutrin. The doctor has not requested a PTH test and feels there is no reason to do any follow up.
I am currently only receiving Chinese medicinal care ā acupuncture and Bu Zhong Yi Qi, which has helped but only a little. My other regular medications include Welbutrin, Zantac and fish oil.
