Suggest Treatment For Lower Back And Heel Pain

Hi,I have occasional flare ups due sciatic nerve problems. Sometimes on left buttocks/front thigh and upon completing my floor stretches my problem can instantly shift to the right side. Sometimes my stretching has given me complete back alleviation only to reappear as an excruciating heal pain. Today the heal pain has disappeared and the lower back pain is back. Some years ago I saw rheumatologist that x rayed my back and showed me a narrowing of my L-3 disk and also said my blood test showed no signs of rheumatoid arthritis. He recommended I take 4 Aleve a day. 2/morn and 2/evenings. Do you think that s too much? Also, I can almost never sit without pain in these areas commencing. I have kaiser ins and every time I mention this it seemes that it is just being dismissed as just a classic sciatic symptom and I just need to take more Tylenol or Advil. Is 4 adverts a day too much? I am a 65 year old male and in what many consider real good shape. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a history of Sciatica pain & narrowing of L3 disc.

Since you have L3 Stenosis, you will get numbness, pain, tingling or weakness in your legs or heel. For pain you can take Tylenol or Advil but that's just symptomatic treatment. You ought to get it treated.

Visit a Neurologist & get all Nerve conduction & Imaging tests done. Nerve disorders if neglected may trigger Peripheral Neuropathy & worsening of the symptoms. Take vitamin B6, B12, DHA along with folic acid & minerals.

Since you have a history of RA, avoid sedentary lifestyle, do regular walking & stretch exercises. You need medical care & attention, get evaluated & treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
