Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing flu type symptoms the worst of which is coughing. I have tried tuslon pearls given to me by my mother. I have also used at least 15 different types of over the counter cough syrups. Don t know why we can place a man on the moon but can t seem to find a cough suppressor that will give a person five hours of relief.
You are suggested to do warm saline gargle two or three times a day. Take warm beverage, soup & water. Take semi-solid diet like porridge or oats.
Take antihistamines (levocetrizine, one tab once or twice daily for 1-3 days) for relieve. Your discomforts should reduce. Give voice rest, do not talk.
If you have discomforts you can take a course of Tamiflu, after consultation with a GP. Always take medicines under a GP or health care provider.
You may need antibiotics if you are diagnosed with acute bronchitis or other RTI's.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
