In 2008 I was told I had/have plantar faciitis, and was instructed on how to minimize pain by using orthotics, supportive shoes, and frequent stretching. My symptoms of this condition have been infrequent and overall HAD improved, until about 3 weeks ago when they re-emerged with an entirely different symptom as well...
I began waking up each morning to a sharp, shooting pain in the back of both my ankles. Each morning the pain would be greater and continue longer and longer into the day. On the third or fourth day of this happening, I noticed that in the area surrounding my Achilles' tendons, the arches of my feet, and the inside of my ankles were all beginning to swell. The very next day my feet were so swollen all I was afraid to move around or go anywhere. Finally I saw a Dr. a few days later who thinks it may be Tarsel Tunnel Syndrome, and gave me 2 shots in my right foot and 3 in my left. The swelling and pain were greatly reduced (if present at all) for about 5 days. Since the pain came back (almost a week ago), it has been constant and increasingly more severe. Also, I now have 3 areas of raised, bruise-like red spots. One if on the front of my right shin, another on the lower part of my left knee, and one on the inner side of the back of my right calf. These areas do not itch but sometimes feel like they are burning or crawling with a tingling sensation. The swelling is CONSTANT even though I've been following Dr.'s orders by alternating NSAIDs during the day, keeping my feet elevated, & using cold compresses once every hour or so, for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. I also wear compression socks as needed. Nothing has gotten better thus far, only worse. Someone please help if you have any suggestions. I'm beginning to become very scared Thank you.
