Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Cough

been sick for 2 weeks now. these symptoms came and gone: sore throat,nauseous headache, hoarseness and tender glands. i still have a stuffy nose and cough, and my cough is worse when i lay down, when i lay down all i do is cough,cough.cough. i called my doctor last wednesday and all he said to do was take otc meds. but i think 2 weeks is to long to be sick what should i do?
