A few days ago, I took quite a fall with my tibia about 1/3 down my lower leg from my knee getting quite a blow from a landscape timber. Though the area of impact has swollen and is hard and painful to the touch, most of the bruising has pooled down in my inner foot and ankle and I have been able to walk. I figured at worse it was a bone bruise. However, today, four days after the injury, my foot and toes are experiencing tingling and numbness. The web between the first and second toe doesn't seem to be where I notice it the most. I feel the tingling the most on the top of my foot (and over my first toe) and notice the numbness on the outer edge of my foot when I stroke it. The area that took the impact was more to the inner side of the shin bone.
Do I need to go see a doctor to be assessed for possible acute compartment syndrome?
The only other symptom that might be connected is severe cramping of that foot and shin at night. Because I have suffered from toe and foot cramping off and since I was a teen, and some shin cramping occasionally this past winter, the first couple of time it happened I considered it unconnected. But, I must say the cramping has been every night, always involved the shin and is much more severe the past nights since my fall.
